{"id":114,"date":"2012-07-13T00:06:34","date_gmt":"2012-07-13T00:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joeplumstead.com\/?p=114"},"modified":"2012-07-14T21:54:33","modified_gmt":"2012-07-14T21:54:33","slug":"keep-the-vampires-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joeplumstead.com\/?p=114","title":{"rendered":"Keep the Vampires Away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I use a lot of garlic in my recipes.\u00a0 I mean, <strong><em>a lot of garlic.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Having owned a restaurant for 12 years and, prior to that, working as a cook for almost 28 years, I don\u2019t think that I peeled a single clove of garlic, at least not that I remember or care to remember.\u00a0 Every place at which I\u2019ve worked during the last 40 years used already-peeled fresh garlic.\u00a0 It is wonderful stuff.\u00a0 It comes in one-gallon containers.\u00a0 I used gallons a week.\u00a0 It spoiled me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since losing my restaurant in April of this year, it seems as if I\u2019ve divided my time between looking for a job and peeling garlic.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure which sucks more, but I\u2019m leaning towards peeling garlic as taking the \u201cSuck Award\u201d on this one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The other day my wife, Michelle, brought home a rubber garlic peeler.\u00a0 A natural skepticism prohibited me from thinking that this thing would ever work.\u00a0 It looked like something someone had discarded: a 4-inch colorful rubber cylinder with about a 1 inch diameter, the two ends looking as if they had been snipped by pinking shears.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Amazingly, the rubber garlic peeler works!\u00a0 Put 4 or 5 cloves inside the cylinder;
